Walsall Borough Council Elections

Walsall council conducts local elections every year for a three year cycle, with no elections held on the fourth year.

This year the local elections were held on the same day as the General Election as a 'Joint Election' on Thursday 7 May 2015.  A joint election means; when you vote there will be two ballot papers to complete - the first to choose your MP candidate for the General Election, the person who will represent you and your constituency in London at parliament.  The second to choose your councillor candidate for the Local Election, the person who will join the team of three councillors who represent your local ward at the borough council in Walsall.

Walsall's next local election will be in May 2016, we as a local party have started our candidate selection process for all 20 wards.

Obviously, we would be delighted if you would support Walsall Green Party, by voting for your Green Party candidate, but you can only do that if you have registered to vote.

If you are registered you will have received a letter from the Electoral Registration office confirming that you are indeed, listed and registered to vote - this is not your polling card, they are sent out seperately in the run up to the elections.

How we register to vote has changed, there are thousands of people in the borough who think they are already registered but in fact are not.  The new system to register to vote is done online through the governments website, each person of voting age person has to individually add themselves.  All you need is your national insurance number, date of birth and your CURRENT address (if you move you will need to register again).  Those people without internet access can register in person at the Electoroal office in Walsall Town Hall.

Other points to note about voting:

Postal vote - anyone can register to vote by post, particularly useful if you cannot vote during polling station opening hours.  Instead cast your vote by post at a time conveenient for you.

Proxy vote - are you away on holiday over the period you could vote by post or in person?  Then nominate someone else to cast your vote for you.
