What happens if no-one wins? Why are people not voting? What happened in 1974, and why does it matter?

27 April 2015

There's a lot being said about the upcoming election, much of it in the notoriously right-wing press is clearly influenced by media owners -

Richard Desmond,for example, is the owner of the Daily Express, Daily Star, OK! and New! magazines as well as assorted adult TV channels, has recently donated £1million to UKIP, and no, we're not going to include links to their websites;

then there's Rupert Murdoch, owner News Corporation which publishes the Sun, The News of the World (now the Son on Sunday) and the Times, also owner of a controlling interest in Sky. Murdoch is well-known as a supporter of the Conservative party (the Sun claimed to have 'won' the 1992 election for John Major), again, no links;

so it's perhaps good to hear something from the left...

Here's a link to an article from The New Statesman written from a vaguely left-of-centre view
(this doesn't mean we agree with what it says or endorse the views in the article, that's for you to decide)

By the way, don't confuse the magazine with the TV series of the same name...

The New Statesman was founded in 1913 by Sidney and Beatrice Webb with the support of George Bernard Shaw and other prominent members of the Fabian Society.
